“Our first stop was the Kawale Youth Centre. We met a girl called Hope who’s 14 and she very proudly showed us round. It’s basically a small room, divided into two: on the right were lots of older boys very studiously reading newspapers and school text books, and on the other side of the partition the little kids were sitting on the floor reading children’s books. And it was so quiet - that’s the first thing that struck me: they were sitting there, quietly, without any teachers. In Africa, the kids have first hand experience of why they need education.”

“Hello, I’m Ewan McGregor, a UNICEF Ambassador, and I’m donating my Moto Guzzi motorcycle to UNICEF for auction on eBay. It’s the first of its kind in this colour and one of my favourite bikes. I collected this bike from the Moto Guzzi factory in Italy and rode it back to London. I’ve loved riding it ever since and I know that you will too.”

Charley Boorman, actor, adventurer and star of the Long Way Down and the Long Way Round, returns to our screens this Sunday at 8pm on BBC2 for his latest epic journey, By Any Means.
The series follows Charley as he travels from Wicklow, Ireland to Sydney, Australia using any means of transport available locally. He will traverse land and sea, crossing 25 countries and three continents and using over 110 modes of transport.
UNICEF is once again the official charity for Charley’s expedition. He will be visiting immunisation projects en route, raising awareness and money for our vital work to protect children from diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, tetanus and measles.

Como muchos de los actores de los que hemos hablado en este blog, McGregor es otro ejemplo de la nueva estrella. Un talento incuestionable, un físico estupendo y su nombre encima del título de la película. Pero la vida privada, los pequeños pecados y los grandes escándalos quedan estrictamente reservados.
Han pasado once años desde "Trainspotting", la película que lo dio a conocer en todo el mundo. Desde entonces, un vistazo a su filmografía deja la boca abierta a cualquiera. Porque Ewan no ha parado ni lo piensa hacer.Su Renton que paliaba la apatía de su pueblo de Escocia con vistosas alucinaciones heroinómanas supuso una de esas interpretaciones intuitivas y arriesgadas que tanto nos gustan.
Abonado a la ambigüedad, Ewan no tenía problema en desnudarse para Peter Greenaway o en convertirse en una sexualizada estrella del rock glam para "Velvet Goldmine.
La industria hollywoodiense lo llamaría a bocinazos para que se tranquilizase y participase en la nueva trilogía de "Star Wars". Así, Ewan fue el joven Obi Wan Kenobi, con trencita y espada láser. Su llegada al blockbuster nunca lo ha apartado de papeles interesantes.Cuando se tiñe el pelo, está aún más bueno. Y ahí está su encantador Christian de "Moulin Rouge" o su empresario playboy de la tontita "Abajo el amor".
No se le resiste ni el vestuario de época ni los directores personales. Va de Tim Burton a Woody Allen sin ningún problema. Pasa del chándal zarrapastroso al impecable "smoking" dejando atrás los complejos.
La televisión nunca le ha gustado, aunque los fans de "ER" no lo podemos olvidar en su aparición en uno de los grandes episodios de la serie, como el chico escocés que atraca una tienda de ultramarinos en la que se encuentra Julianna Margulies.
Sexy y tierno como pocos, Ewan es adorable, simpático y sólo se puede pensar en él en términos pecaminosos. ¡Viva Escocia!
